Privacy Policy – Atomic Nerds

2. Overview
“Atomic Nerds – Sitcom Quiz” is an unofficial fan quiz. You can use the app entirely without an account (guest mode). An account is optional and only needed for the leaderboards, the online multiplayer or using your progress on several devices.
The app currently uses no advertising or analytics services (no Google Analytics, no ad SDKs, no tracking cookies). Fonts are bundled with the app and are not loaded from third-party servers.
3. Guest mode: storage on your device
In guest mode your progress (XP, rank, records, statistics, recently played questions) and your settings (language, sound) are stored only locally on your device and are not transmitted to us. You can reset them in the settings or remove them by uninstalling the app or clearing its data.
4. Optional account: Firebase Authentication (Google Sign-In)
Sign-in uses Firebase Authentication, a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (“Google”), via your Google account. The following data is processed:
- a unique user ID (Firebase user ID) and your Google account ID,
- the email address, name and profile picture of your Google account (provided by Google and stored in Firebase Authentication; name and picture are not shown or published in the app),
- time of account creation and last sign-in,
- technical connection data such as IP address and device/browser information.
Purpose: providing your account, secure sign-in and linking your game progress. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the feature you requested) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure operation).
5. Cloud storage: Cloud Firestore
When you are signed in, your progress is stored in Cloud Firestore (also a Firebase service by Google):

Database location: Europe (Frankfurt am Main, “europe-west3”). To work offline, a copy of your progress is cached on your device and synchronised when you are back online. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
6. Leaderboards
The leaderboards (all-time, weekly, per game mode) show your player name, avatar, score and rank to all users of the app. Please do not use your real name. Player names are checked for offensive terms.
6.1 Party mode (local)
In party mode several people take turns on one device. The names and scores entered are only processed in the device's memory during the game and are neither stored nor transmitted.
6.2 Online duel
Online duels (1 vs 1) require an account. We process:
- visible to your opponent: player name, avatar, duel rating, score, whether and how fast you answered, and predefined emoji reactions (there is no free chat),
- only for you / the server: your answers, language setting, answer times and a connection heartbeat (every 2 seconds) to detect disconnects,
- for matchmaking, a short-lived queue entry or a 6-digit room code.
The public duel ranking shows player name, avatar, rating and the number of wins, losses and draws. Duels against a bot are clearly marked and do not affect the rating. Duel records are deleted automatically after 30 days, queue entries after one hour and unused rooms after one day. Your duel rating is kept until you delete your account.
6.3 Friends
You receive a random friend code. Other signed-in players can find you by player name or this code and then see your player name, avatar and friend code. A friendship is only created if both agree. We store pending requests (name and avatar of both sides) and the friend list. Friends see each other in the friends leaderboard (name, avatar, total XP, duel rating) and can challenge each other to duels. You can end a friendship at any time.
6.4 Server-side processing (Cloud Functions)
To prevent cheating, duels, friend requests, the check of player names and account deletion are processed by Cloud Functions for Firebase (Google, Frankfurt region “europe-west3”), including technical log data (time, error messages). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the duel) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in fair play, abuse prevention and protection of minors). If a player name is detected as offensive, it is automatically replaced with a neutral name.
6.5 Advertising (Google AdMob, Android app only)
The Android app shows ads via Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland): an interstitial ad after game rounds (at most every few minutes) and optional rewarded videos that give you a joker. Google processes, among other things, your device's advertising ID, IP address, device and app information and information about your interaction with the ads.
On first launch we ask for your consent through Google's consent platform (User Messaging Platform). With consent, Google may show personalised ads (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG). Without consent, only non-personalised ads are served, as far as technically necessary data suffices (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, funding the free app). You can change or withdraw your choice at any time under Settings → Change ad consent. Buying "Ad-free" stops all ads from loading. You can also reset or delete the advertising ID in your Android settings. More: policies.google.com/technologies/ads. The browser version contains no third-party ads.
7. Transfers to third countries
Google may also process data in the USA (Google LLC). Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; in addition, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses apply under the Firebase Data Processing and Security Terms. More: firebase.google.com/support/privacy, policies.google.com/privacy.
8. Retention and deleting your account
We keep your account and game data until you delete your account. You can delete it at any time directly in the app: Account → Danger zone → Delete account. This immediately and completely deletes your player profile, your cloud progress, all your leaderboard entries, your duel rating and duels, your friend code, friend list and friend requests, and your Firebase Authentication account. Alternatively, request deletion by email to info@duohcorporation.com. Signing out does not delete data; the local copy on the device is reset when you sign out.
9. Children
Signing in requires a Google account; Google's age limits apply. Persons under 16 should only create an account with the consent of their parents or guardians (Art. 8 GDPR). Guest mode works without any personal data.
10. Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR). Contact us at the email address above. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia (LDI NRW), Kavalleriestraße 2–4, 40213 Düsseldorf, Germany, www.ldi.nrw.de.
11. Changes
We will update this policy when the app changes – for example once in-app purchases (Google Play Billing) are added.
